Display - TMD to Mass Produce AM OLED Panels
October 27, 2004
Joining an array of Japanese makers, TMD (Toshiba Matsushita Display) is also planning to ramp up mass production of color OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) panels from 2005, a move that is likely to further invigorate the market. Active matrix OLED will be adopted for 3.5" panels, which the joint venture between Toshiba and Matsushita plans to use in portable AV (Audio-Visual) devices. Mass production is slated for the first half of 2005.

Earlier, Tohoku Pioneer also announced plans to expand its OLED capacity. The existing plant, which currently produces passive matrix OLED panels, will add a new production line primarily for mobile phone main displays. Once mass production gets under way, color active matrix OLED panels will reach a monthly capacity of one million units, 70% growth from the present level.
